LLP Plus Seminars

In addition to the individual presentation offerings for LifeLong Learning Program members in the spring and fall, this spring LLP is launching LLP Plus, a separate seminar program which offers an opportunity for deeper learning through a series of meetings focused on a single topic. This initial seminar will feature Margaret Darby, who will direct an extended discussion of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens.

Spring 2025 Seminar Full: Registration Closed

Reading David Copperfield

Instructor: Margaret Darby retired from 成人头条鈥檚 department of Writing & Rhetoric in 2015 as an associate professor, having published articles on Dickens in several academic journals and books. Her 1988 prize-winning PhD dissertation at SUNY Binghamton was on Fault Lines in Dickens. She published The Hothouse Flower: Nurturing Women in the Victorian Conservatory in 2020.

Course Description: Margaret Darby will instruct an extended discussion of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. The seminar of up to 20 participants will meet for five Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Town of Hamilton Hall. Rather than studying what professional critics and biographers have written about the novel, the pedagogical philosophy will be to deepen the participant鈥檚 capacity to find and enlarge individual responses to the text. NOTE: Participants will be expected to read David Copperfield during the seminar, any edition. The CU bookstore will have copies of a paperback edition chosen by the presenter.

Program Cost: $30 for LLP members, $50 for non-members.
